Born and raised in Washington state, I spent much of my “outdoor time” in the mountains of the Cascades; skiing, hiking, fishing, hunting or just exploring. In my youth I exhibited some artistic talent, together with an affinity for math and science. With those affinities in mind, I attended college and graduated with a degree in Industrial Design. Despite starting out on a path towards a very creative career, I soon found myself behind a desk and on a different path to a career in electrical engineering.
My 40 years in the world of consulting engineering were exciting, challenging, stressful, usually rewarding, and sometimes even provided opportunities for creativity. Throughout all of those years I continued to draw strength and creative inspiration from time spent outdoors in wild and natural places. Today, as a retired engineer, I’ve found my “happy place” in Montana, where inspiration can be found just about everywhere you look.
My production follows the seasons. I produce wood objects (and gather wood) mostly in spring and early summer (with some additional activity in the fall). Drawings and paintings will be produced primarily in the winter (with subject matter gathered year-round). Throw in a good dose of outdoor fun, family, travel, and home remodel projects during the in-between times and you have my recipe for a satisfying retired life.
Thank you for visiting my website. You can also follow me on Instagram, @100wildjuniper. I hope you will join me on my journey. I'll try to make it interesting and fun.

Our wood products are made from locally gathered Rocky Mountain Juniper, mostly from our property overlooking the headwaters of Rock Creek in Montana. The Juniper here thrives in defiance of extreme weather, poor soils, and rugged terrain. Thanks largely to this challenging life, the wood possesses a unique beauty and character. It is a true pleasure bringing this beauty and character to life!

I enjoy drawing and sketching, but had little time to hone my skills while working as an engineer. Now I'm finding more time. I've mostly doing pen and ink, and colored pencil work. I have begun painting and expect to have works for sale by spring, 2026. See my painting progress @100wildjuniper on Instagram. If you enjoy the beauty of a western landscape, I think you will enjoy checking out my work!
